Personal Protection Strategy: The Basics is the beginning of a series of posts that will look at the different areas that make up your strategy. In today’s crazy world, it can be very easy to overlook one or more of these areas. Accordingly, this series will give you the tools needed to make informed decisions. You will be able to then incorporate those tools that work best for your personal protection strategy.
First, I want to address why you need a strategy. A personal protection strategy involves proactively preparing for and responding to potential threats or harmful situations. It encompasses various aspects including situational awareness, physical and mental preparedness, and developing a plan to minimize risk and maximize safety.
Mindset and Preparation
The one aspect of your strategy you really can’t get away from is your mindset. The fact that you are even pursuing the idea of personal protection means you are way ahead of the game. A personal protection mindset emphasizes awareness, preparedness, and confidence. This involves staying alert, trusting your instincts, and developing the mental fortitude to handle challenging situations calmly and decisively.
Preparation is the second easiest thing you can do to start your personal protection strategy. Attending one of my Refuse To Be A Victim seminars (enroll at the bottom) will give you a lot of great ideas and avenues to prepare your mind and your home for personal protection. Another way to prepare is to utilize a personal property inventory. This is a service offered by Ask Imagine as well. Categorizing your property and assets with photos and costs will save a lot of heartache should either a natural disaster or theft happen.
Self Defense and Firearms Training
The Personal Protection Strategy: The Basics includes possibly learning self defense tactics (i.e. Jiu Jitsu, Karate, etc.). This is a great article that will give you different styles, how they differ, and which could be the best for your personality or lifestyle. Not only will it help you protect yourself but may also improve your fitness, allowing for a better chance to escape any confrontation you find yourself in. Obviously we understand that we win 100% of the confrontations we can escape or avoid.
Finally, the reasons you need to include firearms training in your personal protection strategy seems to be increasing by the day. While firearms should always be used as a last resort, it is imperative you have as much training as possible. This will ensure your accuracy and confidence in the use of your firearms. A License To Carry is also strongly encouraged as this teaches you the applicable laws as well as firearms safety and operation.
As mentioned, attending one of my Refuse To Be A Victim seminar will get you started on the right track!
